AI in Hong Kong is not really new. Corporations and government organizations in Hong Kong have already been leveraging various AI algorithms and techniques for business optimization, transformation & transportation application for many years.

In this month’s AI Society talk, Dr. Andy Chun and provides a series of case studies to highlight how AI has been used to improve service quality as well as quality of life for millions of Hong Kong citizens daily.


Dr. Andy Chun
Associate Professor and Former Chief Information Officer, City University of Hong Kong
Dr. Chun is a leading Artificial Intelligence (AI) pioneer and global visionary with over three decades of AI innovation experience. Dr. Chun empowers organizations through improving customer experience and digital transformation, using AI and enterprise optimization. He has created numerous AI applications that are improving quality of life and benefiting millions of citizens daily. Dr. Chun is currently an Associate Professor and former Chief Information Officer at City University of Hong Kong. He is a highly trusted consultant and a sought-after speaker on a wide range of technology-related topics. Dr. Chun has received numerous AI and ICT awards, as well as the HK CIO Award and the Top 5 Greater China CIO Award. Dr. Chun has also been a senior advisor to the HK Government on AI and IT strategies. Dr. Chun is also the Convenor for the Hong Kong Computer Society’s AI Specialist Group. Dr. Chun holds a B.Sc. from the Illinois Institute of Technology and an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Ouyang Jun
Senior Researcher, Big Data Institute of HKUST
Jun has been working in big data field over 6 years (machine learning and AI over 15 years). Currently he is a research associate at Big Data Institute of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology(HKUST) and mainly in charge of a big data project which is Big Data Platform for Smart Transportation Applications with Heterogeneous Data Sources. Before joining HKUST in 2016, Jun was working as a researcher working at Huawei’s Noah’s Ark Lab in Hong Kong office, and focusing on machine learning, information privacy and streaming data mining. He earned his PhD from McGill University specializing in computer engineering. During his PhD study, he employed CBR to speed up the design process of EM devices.
